Wow this month flew by quickly!!
Our first month of the year was a great success. Students have settled into our class routines and are developing strong friendships.
During this week we completed our patterns unit in math with a "show what your know". Students did a great job! We will continue using our knowledge and understanding of patterns throughout the year.
Our work during reading and writing this week was around belonging and acceptance. We looked at the C.A.F.E. Menu (reading strategies > Comprehend, Accuracy, Fluency, Expanding Vocabulary) and focused on the "C" (comprehension) strategy of using our prior knowledge while we read to have a better understanding of the content in our books. We will continue to work with different strategies from our menu to develop our reading confidence. In writing we are working on adding detail to our work, to help with this we looked at using similes. We had an opportunity to describe one of our family members using only similes. Please ask your child who they described and what comparisons they used.
Thank you to our parent volunteers who joined us on our community walk. Throughout our walk we collected a lot of information and ideas to create our own Cranston community map. During our science investigations we observed various rocks and minerals and discussed the three different types of rocks. Ask your child what types of rocks we talked about, and ask for an interesting fact about each type.
This morning, finished off our first month of school with our Terry Fox Run. Thankfully the weather cooperated! We had a beautiful day to show our support. Our Twoonie for Terry donation jar will remain in the office if you would like to donate.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
