This past week we celebrated Orange Shirt Day. Our school community gathered together to focus on the importance of inclusion and acceptance.
During our math times, we have started looking at how numbers are created and the different ways numbers are represented. We first discussed the most common way of representing a number, its "standard form", we then talked about representing numbers in "expanded form", in words, using base ten blocks, recording in ones, tens, hundreds and within the place value chart. Ask your child to show you these different ways.
Ex:
Standard Form > 432
Expanded Form > 400 + 30 + 2
Words > Four hundred thirty two
Ones, tens, hundreds > 4 hundreds, 3 tens, 2 ones
Base ten >
Place Value >
Our rocks and minerals investigation continues as we looked into the various rocks types and the rock cycle.
Our mapping studies has developed into creating a class mural of our Cranston Community. Using only paper, the class will be identifying and developing different parts of the community.
Our grade 3 classes will be participating in a pen pal program with a class on Shanghai China. The purpose of the pen pals is to have the students understand the letter writing process and connect with other students to compare how they learn and live in another country. We have completed our first letter and will be mailing the package to our partner class next week.
Hope everyone has a wonderful long weekend with lots of family time!
