Another fun filled week with the Grummick Threes!

This week we had not one but TWO fire drills! The kids did an amazing job and understand the importance of being quick and quiet when exiting the building. We have had conversations with the class around what to do if you are not in the classroom when the fire bell goes and the importance of finding an adult AND our meeting spot. Please continue this conversation at home with your child.

During our literacy time, we have been focusing on adding details to our writing. To help add details to our pieces, we are using our five senses. Using the book, "The House that Jack Built", students developed a mind map/thought web of all the things they might see, hear, feel, or smell in a house that they would like to create. Ask your child what types of things they have in their house. We are also looking at interesting beginnings. Reading a variety of books, we have identified some ways to start our own writing. To catch the readers attention, stories can start with: a sound, a conversation, the setting, or a feeling/emotion. We will continue to look at a variety of beginning and details throughout the few weeks.

Our investigation of numbers continues in math. We are beginning to look at how numbers are ordered on a number line and the symbols used to identify numbers that are greater than or less than another.

Throughout our inquiry of rocks and minerals we are now able to identify the three types of rocks using the characteristics of each. Your child will be able to share with you some unique factors of each type; igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic.

Our recreation of our Cranston community is almost complete. You will be able to see our masterpiece next week at parent teacher interviews.

Our week finished off with our first Club Friday. Students were excited to participate in their first club and had lots to share when they returned.
